A Guide on Training Aggressive Dogs
Even though dogs in general are seen to be loyal and loving pets, you can never be too sure that it will always be that way. When provoked, dogs have the physical and mental capabilities to suddenly turn into aggressive creatures. When this happens, there’s no telling the kind of damage it can cause on your property or the possible harm that you and the people around you may face. If you want to know how you can prevent this scenario from happening, then here are just a few reminders that you should always keep in mind when training aggressive dogs.
Seek medical attention
When handling an aggressive pet dog, the first thing that you need to do is to consult a veterinarian so that he or she can determine if your dog’s sudden change in behavior is caused by any medical reasons. You may not be aware of it but your dog may be suffering from encephalitis or may have head trauma, which can cause it to behave inappropriately. Or your dog may have a condition called hypothyroidism, which causes it to exhibit aggressive behavior even when there’s nothing or no one provoking it. Going to a veterinarian will help you understand your pet a little bit more so that you can give it the proper love and care that it needs.
Show your pet dog who is boss in your domain.
Since dogs innately have that quality of thinking that they’re boss, or the leader of the pack, it’s important that you let it know that you’re the boss so that it will learn to respect you. Most of the time dogs behave badly because they know that they can get away with it, thus, disregarding you as an authority figure. To gain your control back, you need to learn the proper technique on how you should treat your pet. From feeding to punishment and also training it to follow your commands. Sure some dogs can be all cute and adorable and kind, but that’s only because they’re owners were smart enough to train their pets from the time they were still puppies. Once your dog recognizes you as the master, it will be definitely become much more obedient.
Never resort to destructive physical punishment
Lastly, in training aggressive dogs, it’s important that you never ever resort to cruel physical punishment. You should never hit your dog or it might be persuaded to protect itself from you. Instead of thinking of ways on how you should punish your dog when it does something bad, you should concentrate on ways you can instill discipline in your pet. Just make sure that you don’t give your dog mixed signals when you teach it about discipline.
